BA (Hons)

What Are They?
  • A Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree is a universally recognised qualification that tell the world you have a deep understanding of your degree subject.
  • They typically take 3 years full time, more for part time.
  • As degrees are designed to give people a thorough understanding of their subject, graduates also develop their analytical, intellectual and essay/report writing skills.
  • Degrees leave the learning much more up to you, with the emphasis on lectures backed up by tutorials rather than a more interactive learning environment.
  • Undergraduates are expected to research widely around their subject and to motivate themselves outside of lectures - you'll have to do a lot more than just turn up to the lectures to pass the course.
Why Would I Want One?
  • Graduates are 50% more likely than non-graduates to get a job.
  • Graduates earn 35% more than the national average.
  • Whatever you want to do in life, your career opportunities will be improved if you have a degree or diploma from a university or college.
  • If you want to work in some professions (such as law or medicine) you will have to have a relevant degree.
Where Can I Get One?
  • There are 108 higher education institutions in the UK that can award degrees. There are also over 300 colleges and other institutions that do not have degree awarding powers but provide courses leading to degrees. You can also study on-line or from a distance (e.g. The Open University).
