Activity 10: Make Your Own Diamond Art
We know how much some of you love sparkle, so the activity for this week will be one for you! Bling up an old item to make it shiny and new. This fun activity is a great way to upcycle something that needs a new look. Vanessa's tutorial is as follows:
YOU WILL NEED:
An item that you want to decorate (a frame, a stone, a magnet etc.)
Sparkle - sequins, old beads, glitter.
Good glue - ideally a glue gun or strong craft glue.
What to do:
Gather all your materials: find anything in the house you may wish to make sparkly, on old frame, stones or a glass jar. Find any bling you may have in the house- this can be used beads, sequin or actual glitter. You will need good glue, ideally a glue gun but if not- fabric glue and PVA glue if your using light materials such as glitter.
Place all your materials on a craft board (or old plate) and take the beads out of their containers as the actual ‘glue the diamonds down part’ needs to be a fast process.
Start working out where you would like to have your beads, the colour scheme and the composition. Where do you think it would look nice? If this step is too vague or too much- leave it out: don’t worry.
Paste the glue all over the first part you will sparkle.
Apply the sparkles/ diamonds onto the glue.
Repeat this over the whole item. Now let it dry.
Once dried, if you have used a glue gun take away the strings of glue. If you would like to add more sparkle onto it, you can do this. If you are happy with it, you can either decide to leave it as it (as I have done) or add clear varnish over it to secure it. Now it’s time to find a nice place for it!
If you make one of these, please send us a photo - we would love to see!
