Activity 112:   Aquarelle Painting  Tips

During one of our workshops we coloured in these gorgeous drawings from Kathryne Coyle, Little Red Boots.

Her drawings are for sale at Aldi alongside a collection of Disney aquarelle drawings. A great activity to do and a lovely gift to give.

You Will Need:

  • Water colour paints (does not have to be good quality as long as you like the colours).

  • Pre drawn templates

  • 3 small cups of water

  • Paintbrushes

Painting Tips

1.

Start by using a light shade of a colour, you can always make it darker.

2.

Start by colouring in the light colours.

3.

Look at where the shading would be and make that darker.

4.

Don’t use pure black, always try to make your own version of black with the 3 primary colours: red, blue and yellow.

5.

Choose your colours to suit the picture- keep it simple by choosing just 3 colours. You can always add more.

6.

Use water as a medium to spread your colour. Good quality watercolour paper can handle it.

7.

Always clean your paintbrush in between colours.
