Activity 23: Cupcake Decorating

Thursday the 18th is Cupcake Day for Alzheimer Scotland. The aim is to hold a bake sale, but I think in these times it might be nice to decorate a few cupcakes and donate any profits to Alzheimer Scotland without the big event.
All of our groups have already done cupcake decorating as a workshop, which is why I thought this time I could offer you a different way of decorating - mainly through heat!
YOU WILL NEED:
-
Cupcakes - You could buy some or bake your own using the recipes below.
-
A Boiled Sweet
-
Hair Straighteners
-
Sugar
-
A Pan
-
Cherries
-
Edible Flowers
-
Frosting
WHAT TO DO:
Prepare your cupcakes. You could use one of these recipes for inspiration:
Idea 1
The photos below will show you a way of using heat to liquidise and manipulate the shape of what in essence is sugar. I used hair straighteners over a boiled sweet (protected by baking paper). Which was so much fun to do!

Idea 2:
Then the second one was meant to be a caramel nest, but as I didn’t use cream, I think it didn’t work out. Has anyone made the caramel nests before?
And a simple way to create a beautiful natural effect is by using flowers - simple yet so incredibly effective.

Please show us your baking adventures and create more inspiring cupcake designs!

If you make one of these, please send us a photo - we would love to see!
