Activity 65: Felt Baskets

We have packs made up with the materials needed for this lovely activity - visit Gallery 966 during our pack collection times to get one. You can also use your own materials.
You Will Need:
-
A square piece of sturdy felt.
-
Good scissors
-
Needle and thread
-
Pins
-
The template to cut out the octagon can be used
Step by step guide:
Cut out your octagon shape by using the template provided here.

Cut into each corner of the octagon – the deeper the cut, the higher and smaller your basket will be. A ‘short’ cut in, will provide you with a flatter more open basket. Choose which version you would like and then make the cuts accordingly.
Fold over the first 2 flaps as shown here.
Pin them together.
Once all flaps are stitched, remove the pins.

Fold over the next 2 flaps as shown here and pin them in.

Now fold over the next groups of flaps and try to create a balanced effect. Stitch them on once you are happy with the look of it.

Place a tiny stitch where you have placed the pins - try to make the stitch invisible on the outside.
Take out the pins and you should have invisible stitches holding your basket together 😊
If you make one of these, please send us a photo!
